Welcome to the Town of Birch
The Town of Birch is a small, rural town located in east-central Lincoln County. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of about 570 residents, reflecting a quiet, low-density community.
Geographically, Birch covers roughly 93.5 square kilometers (36 square miles), with most of the land being forested or rural countryside. It lies about 12 miles north of Merrill (the county seat) and is crossed by U.S. Highway 51, providing access to nearby towns like Tomahawk.
The town includes the unincorporated community of Irma and is characterized by a rural lifestyle, with agriculture, woodland, and outdoor recreation playing a central role. Overall, Birch is a sparsely populated, scenic area typical of northern Wisconsin’s small-town environment.
